Day 7 Highlights of the 2024 Paris Olympics
In an exciting quarterfinal match, Lakshya Sen of China Taipei defeated Chou Tien Chen, making Olympic history. He is currently the first male Indian to advance to the badminton singles semifinals in the Olympics. Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara earlier created history by being the first Indian duo to get to the mixed team archery semifinals. They were unable to win India’s first Olympic medal in the event, though, as they were defeated by USA’s Casey Kaufhold and Brady Ellison in the bronze medal match following a loss to South Korea’s Lim Sihyeon and Kim Woojin, who took home the gold.
Manu Bhaker became the first Indian to qualify for three finals in a single Olympic edition, adding to her already impressive record in Paris. She will now try to add to the two bronze medals she has already earned in the 10m pistol shooting events after placing second in the women’s 25m pistol qualification. In a thrilling 3-2 victory over Australia, the Indian men’s hockey team won their first Olympic match against the Kookaburras since Munich 1972.
Manu achieved a score of 590 out of 600, which included exceptional scores of 296 in the quick stage and 294 in the precise stage. Esha Singh, another Indian, finished 18th with a total score of 581, missing out on the final, having scored 291 in precision and 290 in rapid. The final, which is set for Saturday at 1 PM, will feature the top eight competitors.
